If you love Lupino you might give this book 4 or 5 stars for me it barely merits a one star because I was looking for detailed information on her directing career, especially The Trouble With Angels Instead it reads like a basic filmography including a final chapter that analyzes her movies from a critical perspective that bounces from movie to TV show, with a little bit of personal information included None of it goes into any depth and there arequestions raised than answered. Most di If you love Lupino you might give this book 4 or 5 stars for me it barely merits a one star because I was looking for detailed information on her directing career, especially The Trouble With Angels Instead it reads like a basic filmography including a final chapter that analyzes her movies from a critical perspective that bounces from movie to TV show, with a little bit of personal information included None of it goes into any depth and there arequestions raised than answered. Most disappointing is the page and a half devoted to Trouble With Angels Only 7 paragraphs for her most famous box office success as a director It overshadows any of the movies she made and is aired annually on TV When she moves into her later TV career we just get a summary paragraph of what shows she was on instead of any details There remains, however, pages of mainly unfamiliar names and the author s second guessing of why Lupino made certain choices. At least he did meet her in person and was able to get some stories from her But the whole book is just too much praise lavished on a woman who really was not on the A list If you believe what this guy writes she was the greatest film star on earth for a few years In truth she was a decent old school actress who became a ground breaking director and made one of the best Catholic movies ever put on film How she did that, based on this book, we ll never know

She had a borderline personality, but managed to be hugely successful as an actress and a director Alienated her whole family eventually Interesting study on a rollercoaster life that was especially good and especially bad because of her personality traits rather than outside influences.

An interesting biography of a fascinating woman who like so many of the women of her time was a walking contradiction Strong and independent as a director and actress, her personal life was riddled with men that she should have dumped but stuck with them.
